The fun is over. Well actually, a different fun began today. We started doing surgeries.
My job was to make sure the patients were scheduled and moving in and out of the operating rooms at the appropriate times. It sounds like a small job, and if all goes as planned it is. But what you need to know about a medical mission trip is that nothing ever goes as planned.
The operating rooms needed to be set up. We thought we could do that by 9am. WRONG! But we were ready to go by about 10:30am and the first surgery went very well. Actually, every surgery we performed went well with no complications. Praise the Lord!
We thought we would be doing 15 surgeries today. WRONG! We fell short of our goal because of all the delays with getting the rooms setup and getting all the equipment we needed from the hospital. But we expect to catch up tomorrow. I just feel bad that a handful of patients have to wait one more day to get the relief they are looking for.
Tomorrow will go a lot smoother now that our system is figured out and all the rooms are already set up. And I continue to learn more Spanish medical terms as I translate for the surgeons. Thank you Google Translate!
