The last few blogs I have been sharing with you thoughts and reflections from stories from the book of Judges. I did some reflecting and found several interesting points from the last story in the book. Here is one of those points:
God’s people can be dangerous.
Just because someone claims to be a follower of Christ doesn’t mean they are always Christ-like. The title of Christian doesn’t automatically make you a Christian. The decision to give your heart to Christ, to surrender to him, to make God the Lord of your life, that makes you a Christian. And people who claim to be Christians but are disconnected from God, can do horrific things like the Israelites did throughout the book of Judges.
And I want to apologize to anyone who at some point in your life, was hurt by someone who supposedly was a Christian. Because that shouldn’t have happened. But it does happen, unfortunately, and I hope that you can find a church full of real people who are going through life, very imperfectly, but trying to connect with God and with each other. We’re not perfect. But we are Christians and we’re learning to surrender more and more to God. And if we’ve ever hurt you in any way, I want to say I’m sorry and I’d love to have a chance to apologize to you face-to-face. Because we don’t want to be a reflection of the Israelites at this time. Where we’re just doing things our own way and hurting people. We need to stop this immediately.
