Balance.
A concept I want to achieve.
Life is either too much or too little, but rarely that beautiful middle ground of being able to manage it all.
Spring “Break” is a great example of me attempting to balance all the parts of my life that are vying for my attention. A few days of work, a few days of appointments, a few days of fun, and few days of spring cleaning inside and outside. Some of the days are long and hard, some are wonderful. Some of the moments I thought would be peaceful were not. Some of the mundane moments held magic I wouldn’t have been able to create if I tried. There is still a mile of stuff on my to-do list but that’s okay.
I used to think that balance was a finish line that I would find one day. I magical equation that would take into account all of my responsibilities and life situations and make it feel comfortable and doable. Nope.
What I found out from my counselor, is that balance is much like a teeter-totter at my childhood playground.
Now that’s something fun I can visualize! A tetter-totter is at the playground for FUN! But it’s not much fun if it isn’t moving. Balance is only achieved at certain points in the back and forth ride. Small moments of “I’ve got it!” and the rest mostly either up or down and wondering where balance went. Always in constant motion.
The encouragement in this for you and for me is that we are probably finding more balance than we think we are!
Maybe you need to shift your view of balance like I did. Release a bit of control over the ups and downs of life and learn that there is fun in the ride. I know that you can learn how to do that. It isn’t easy, but not much of the good stuff of life is. I believe in you. We can do this!
