The healing power of waterfalls has made them a sought after place to spend time, and Idaho has her fair share of beautiful falls to enjoy. I have spent time hiking in or driving up to many waterfalls across the state, but one of the most memorable and iconic is Shoshone Falls. It has been lovingly referred to as the “Niagra of the West,” and rightly so as it is actually 36 feet taller!
Located just outside of Twin Falls in a beautifully maintained state park, you can choose many ways to enjoy the falls. Take a short hike up or down the cliffs or just walk out on the lookout and take in the view. This time of year is a beautiful time to go because the flows are high! When water falls from 212 feet up, it makes quite a splash and you can often see rainbows in the spray.
This week is pretty special. Through Sunday you can see the falls lit up at night with all different colors. It’s called Shoshone Falls After Dark and is something that continues to gain popularity, coming back for more weeks each year thanks to local sponsors.
No matter what time of day you visit the falls, you are sure to enjoy the sight, sound, and smell of this place of healing and beauty in God’s creation, close enough for all of us to enjoy.
