“Strongholds” is a faith-filled, declarative song about overcoming through the blood of Jesus. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 describes strongholds as thoughts in our mind that don’t line up with the knowledge of God and His truth. Those verses talk about taking thoughts captive and making them obedient to Christ. You can fight lies that are stuck in your mind by replacing them with the truth of what God’s Word says.
Strongholds could also be persistent situations and problems in our lives that stick around for a long time and we just can’t seem to get to move and change. These could be things like struggles with a certain sin issue, or maybe a financial or a familial challenge you’ve been facing and you’re waiting and believing for God to intervene and change things. The good news is Jesus has overcome this world, He’s overcome sin, and He’s overcome the devil. And while we won’t experience the full manifestation of that until eternity, we do get to experience how Christ’s victory comes to bear on our lives on this side of eternity too. You can persist in faith in God and in prayer, believing those mountain situations and struggles in your life that just won’t seem to budge can be moved and changed by His power.
Trials and temptations are certainly part of the Christian life. We don’t get to escape them; the Bible is clear about that. But we also don’t have to live defeated lives as Christians either. We get to walk in the power and victory of Jesus. As you listen to this song, let God put a little “fight” back in you to believe the strongholds in your life can come down too, through His power and His name.
