Matthew West’s latest single is packed with Scripture to encourage you to keep the faith and keep on praying. The Bible teaches us not only that we can and should pray and ask God to meet our needs. It also teaches us that we must persist in prayer because there’s often a period of waiting between our request and God’s answer. Jesus taught several parables and lessons about persistence in prayer in Matthew 7:7-11 and Luke 11:1-13 and Luke 18:1-8.
Here’s my favorite quote from the parable in Luke 18:1: “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.”
When you listen to “Don’t Stop Praying,” let it remind you of this truth! Whatever you need from God, whatever you are believing Him for–whether it’s for yourself or others–always pray and never give up! If you read those Bible passages above you’ll learn that God welcomes our persistence in prayer. He’s not put off or offended by it; He sees it as a sign of faith. And we are praying to God who is a generous Father who loves to give good gifts to His children when we ask for what is in agreement with His will (1 John 5:14-15).
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened…how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” (Matthew 7:7-11 NLT)
Lyrics
What’s your impossible? Your “I need a miracle”
What’s got you barely hanging by a single thread?
What looks so hopeless now? What weighs down your heart with doubt?
You beg for a breakthrough, but no sign of breakthrough yet
When you’ve cried, and you’ve cried ’til your tears run dry
The answer won’t come, and you don’t know why
And you wonder if you can bow your head even one more time
Don’t stop praying
Don’t stop calling on Jesus’ name
Keep on pounding on Heaven’s door
And let your knees wear out the floor
Don’t stop believing
‘Cause mountains move with just a little faith
And your Father’s heard every single word you’re saying
So, don’t stop praying
