MAIN PROJECT 1 – MEET JOY D. IN BOISE
Joy is an avid KTSY listener who lost her husband of 33 years this past month. Joy didn’t know what was coming but her excitement at the possibility led her to meet our team in front of her house early on the morning of December 8, and we captured the moment live on video and on-air. You’ll instantly notice Joy’s incredible spirit and funny personality. Joy was nominated by Jason, one of the deacons at her church that has driven Joy and Tim to service each week and has grown to love them both. Tim was on dialysis and had a weak heart. He fell one afternoon and had to go to the hospital. They discovered some blocked vessels, but due to his dialysis and weak heart, they couldn’t perform surgery. The inevitable time came last month for Tim to pass, and Joy was able to be at the hospital at that moment. Joy’s emotions have understandably been all over the map–from grief to wondering what to do next. Even though Joy knows Tim would have been so elated to see their house renovated, Joy knows that she can continue to live in her own home, with fond memories of their time spent together, surrounded by hope for the future.
MAIN PROJECT 2 – MEET MICHAEL AND TRICIA IN EAGLE
But that’s not all! We announced a surprise SECOND house for this year’s Hope For Christmas Home Remodel!
Meet Michael, who married his childhood sweetheart and best friend, Ashley. They both just turned 31 and welcomed their baby boy. Just weeks after his birth in June 2023, Michael was diagnosed with terminal malignant neuroendocrine cancer that has taken over 80% of his liver and there are too many tumors to count. At St Luke’s, he was given only comfort measures as this cancer does not respond positively to chemotherapy. There are only eight specialists in the world who deal with this form of cancer, and one of them is at Salt Lake’s Huntsman Cancer Center. Michael is traveling to Salt Lake weekly for 1 to 3 days and missing a ton of work, which has put all the major home repair needs on the back burner. Michael is in a Stage 1 trial taking medication that has only been given to mice. The side effects are horrible and painful, but it’s the only hope they have. This home was not his dream but the price was within the budget and it has potential.
Nominated by his mother, Tricia, who has nine other children alongside Michael (her oldest), the KTSY family will be rallying around this entire family who have put everything on hold–including Christmas–to prioritize this experimental path that has so many unknowns. Watch the story, and hear what we’ll be doing for this family this week.
