A few minutes ago, I finished a creative with our main “station voice,” Lisa. She says the stuff that goes between all of KTSY’s songs when the regular on-air personality isn’t talking. She’s very good at what she does. In fact, Lisa’s not just good. She’s one of the most talented people with whom I’ve ever collaborated.
Here’s how our collaboration works. I write the messages I think needs to come between the songs. Each one is typically focused on an aspect of what living to hope looks like. After I’m done, Lisa comes in and reads what I wrote. She’ll do it
word-for-word the first time. The second time, she takes the idea and does whatever she feels. Almost without fail, the ones she riffs are the ones that I use. Our creative relationship works because I offer my best and she makes it better.
It makes me think about how God works with you and me. He takes our efforts and uses His Holy Spirit to make them awesome. The comparison is pretty good, but breaks down a bit when I realize that my efforts are nothing compared to what the Lord can do. Truth is, He doesn’t need me at all. Yet the way He chooses to work is through you and me. Isn’t that crazy?Or, may it’s how He’s teaching us to love like Him.
