“Again” is one of my personal favorite songs Jeremy Camp has ever released. I can relate to the subject matter. I know what it’s like to struggle with discouragement, frustration, and impatience with myself for bringing the same battles, struggles, and weaknesses before God again and again, asking Him for healing, freedom, and the strength to change where needed. That’s what Jeremy sings about in this song, and my guess is you can relate too. Especially when I was young in my relationship with Jesus, I struggled with the fear that He would get tired of dealing with my weaknesses one day and would start to feel impatient and frustrated and disappointed with me like I sometimes felt about myself.
Philippians 1:6 NLT offers us hope: And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
The good work God began in us when we first trusted in Jesus for salvation is a work that requires continuation to completion. In other words, spiritual growth takes time. Spiritual maturity is a lifelong process of God working in our lives to mature us in our faith, make us progressively more like Him in character, and help us get to know Him better. The process of healing from wounds and finding freedom from issues that bind us often takes time too. The good news is God is faithful to complete the work He started in us as we walk with Him in trust and surrender. He won’t give up on us.
Hebrews 4:14-16 tells us that Jesus not only understands our weakness because He faced them in his life on earth but He also overcame them and He can help us overcome them too. So, do what this passage encourages us and what Jeremy Camp in “Again” models for us. Bring your weaknesses and shortcomings, your temptations, your fears, pains, and struggles, boldly to Jesus instead of running away from Him. And you will be met with mercy and grace to help you in your time of need so you can repent, learn, grow, change, heal and find freedom as He shapes you into all He’s called you to be.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Hebrews 4:16 NLT)
Lyrics
Here I am again
Back in the same place I’ve been
So many times
Here I am again
Losing the battle
And thinking I’ll never win this fight
I’m so ashamed, down on my knees
I know there’s grace but is there grace for me?
Fall after fall, prayer after prayer
Father, will You still be there?
Here You are again
Forgiving, redeeming my heart again
Standing me up on my feet again
You show me Your mercy will never run out
Will never run out
I can breathe again
Knowing I’m loved, I feel free again
No matter how long I’ve been wandering
When I think that I’ve gone too far
Here You are
Again
Here I am again
Reminded of all of the ways
You’re patient with me
What a faithful friend
Through every climb, every fall
You never leave
Here You are again
Forgiving, redeeming my heart again
Standing me up on my feet again
You show me Your mercy will never run out
Will never run out
I can breathe again
Knowing I’m loved, I feel free again
No matter how long I’ve been wandering
When I think that I’ve gone too far
Here You are
Again
You’d go anywhere
You’d give anything
Even lay down Your life
To bring to new life to me
Here You are again
Forgiving, redeeming my heart again
Standing me up on my feet again
You show me Your mercy will never run out
Will never run out
I can breathe again
Knowing I’m loved, I feel free again
No matter how long I’ve been wandering
When I think that I’ve gone too far
Here You are
Again
When I think that I’ve gone too far
Here You are
Again
