In “whisper and the wind” bodie sings about walking through all kinds of challenges in life: indecision and loss of vision, feeling burdening and exhausted, and more. And at every turn, he reminds himself and us, as we listen to this song, that God was everything he needed in every one of those moments and will continue to be–even when he might not feel it.
It’s a subtle reference to the story in 1 Kings 19 when the prophet Elijah was discouraged and in hiding because people wanted to kill him for faithfully proclaiming the Lord as the true and living God, and not the idols people were worshipping. In this moment of discouragement, God met with Elijah in a personal way on the mountain where he was hiding. The Bible says there was a mighty windstorm, an earthquake, and a fire that all passed by Elijah, but God was not in any of those things. Then, God spoke to Elijah in the form of a gentle whisper and encouraged him not to give up. It reminds me of Psalm 139:7-12 where King David writes about how there is nowhere he can go to escape God’s presence and that God strengthens and supports us even in our darkest moments.
The point? Whatever you’re going through today or whatever you might go through in the future, know that God is present with you in that situation and He can help with that situation. Sometimes God at work in your life will feel very visible, powerful, and noticeable. Sometimes it will be subtle and simple like the whisper Elijah heard. But have no doubt God is with you and He is working. Ask Him to help you believe that and open your eyes to see it.
