There are things in life that completely intimidate us and those things are different for each one of us. I drove by a neighborhood yard sale sign yesterday and had that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I was grateful it wasn’t me!
I’m always up for a good deal, saving money, finding a treasure, but being the one to put stuff I don’t want on my driveway and hope that someone else wants it? NO WAY! It’s tough. Pricing is tricky! How much do you ask for the stuff? I had a friend recently who has two young kids decide to do a yard sale so they could start getting their house ready to put on the market. I told her she was brave and she laughed at me. “Just put it out on the driveway and see what happens” she said. $1200 bucks later, I guess it worked!
You are brave. Really. There are things you do every single day that someone in this world can’t imagine EVER doing because it’s so scary or intimidating. Those things are different for each one of us. That’s why we need each other. We may not always agree, and there are plenty of subjects that may be off limits for a while, But it’s awesome to live in community, in friendships with other people who can fill in our gaps and make us better than we are by ourselves. It takes vulnerability to reach out, make those connections, nurture those relationships, and it takes time that we sometimes don’t think we have.
Just put it out there and see what happens! The reward may be greater than it was for my friend and her yard sale!
