When Gaylene saw me handing out KTSY stickers at the recent Tauren Well concert she exclaimed, “I’d LOVE to hand out stickers. Seriously. Anytime you want me to do it, call me!”
Gaylene’s joy was contagious and reflected the general demeanor of folks briskly exiting the show.
This is the reason we all work so hard to put on these concerts.
Yes, the work to make it happen can be brutal. Not as glamorous as you might think. Here’s a sample of what goes into putting on one of these shows:
- Intensive negotiation between the concert promoter, the tour business manager, and KTSY over a variety of things, including the lovely money convos.
- Securing a concert venue that has the right number of seats.
- Laying out the map of the venue so that green rooms are set up, catering is taken care of, where volunteers check-in, where general admission doors are, etc.
This is an exhausting, but not an exhaustive list. And the KTSY Events Director, Grace Thompson, coordinates the whole show!
On show day, Grace is the boss (pictured left with Deborah, our amazing promotions director). Even manager Brian, who is a very strong leader, defers. Everyone, including talent, pitches in doing whatever it takes to pull off the event.
My point in sharing this small snapshot isn’t to wow you with how wonderful the KTSY staff is but to remind us all how Jesus in our life fuels a contagious passion to further His kingdom.
There’s nothing more important than that.
