Jesus said “come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
A friend of mine confided that she used to think it was silly to pray while laying in bed going to sleep. That it wasn’t good enough. And sometimes she would fall asleep in the middle of her prayer!
She said it all changed for her when a friend shifted her perspective. “How do you feel when your children fall asleep in your arms?”
Wow. It’s been a minute since I was rocking babies to sleep, but that image brings back powerful moments of the bond between me and my daughters. I realized when I heard this what a privilege it is to be safe and secure with enough trust in someone to actually fall asleep in their arms.
Don’t overcomplicate it. You don’t have to pray a certain way to be valuable to God. He LOVES your time. He LOVES being with you so much that he sent his Son Jesus as a living sacrifice to make sure we would always have access to him. He is the one who will give us rest from the pressures and expectations we put on ourselves. And if you are falling asleep in his arms, I’m pretty sure he’s got a smile on his face.
