More About Dave Arthur
I’m a dad to my three daughters and have been married to my lovely Shauna since 1990. We enjoy long walks on the beach–well, maybe a short walk on the beach–and right into the lake in McCall when we can get away! We are Boise State Bronco season ticket holders and don’t miss a game! I’m also a certified car nut and always has some sort of automotive project going on in the garage.
I officially started my career in broadcasting in January of 1984 making a minimum wage that was $3.35/hour! I was doing what I dreamed of doing when I was 7 years old. In the 80s KTSY did not yet exist but I dreamt of a day when Boise would have a full-time Christian music station where I could host the morning show. It took a long time to realize that dream. I’ve been “town to town, up and down the dial” (to quote the theme song from WKRP). I’ve worked in various formats and have made stops in E Washington and Portland, Oregon before returning home to Boise in 2012 when I grabbed the microphone for the KTSY morning show–the dream I’d had in the 1980s!
I love our listeners at KTSY and hearing their stories about how they’ve been encouraged and found hope from listening. The 3:45 AM alarm can be a grind but then when someone calls in because they want to share what they’re going through–anything from being cancer free, or just losing a loved one the night before–I know I’m right where God needs me to be. Sharing the studio with Tristi is a blast! Each morning we plan out the show asking ourselves what can we share today that will encourage our listeners. Sometimes serious, sometimes fun and goofy–but always with them in mind.
- Favorite KTSY Artists: Impossible question! So many, but here are a few. I love how Matthew West writes and I love his heart. I’m blessed to have been able to get to know a number of our artists on a personal level, like Matthew, and he’s the real deal. Loves God, loves his family and the respect he and his dad have for each other is second to none. TobyMac… I mean how can he NOT be on this list? The guy is hitting his late 50’s still has all the moves, entertains AND shares the gospel at every show! I also love how he shines the light on new artists that are just getting going and takes them on tour with him. Ryan Stevenson has become a dear friend. The fact that he used to live here in Boise made it easy to share time together. One time, both of us shedding tears over our salads at lunch when he went deeper into the loss of his mom. Ryan’s song writing is amazing! I love it when I get a text that says, “Got a few minutes to listen to something?” for KING & COUNTRY continues to surprise me when they release new music. They, too, have such a burning in their heart for people to know Jesus. Their Burn The Ships Tour was my favorite concert I’ve ever attended in my life! And I will always love the artists that helped pave the way in music like Amy Grant, Michael W Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman and others.
- Best Advice I’ve Been Given: My Dad said to find a job I really like and then I won’t work a day in my life. He was right.
- Fun Fact About Myself: My career has offered me opportunities many don’t get to have, and I’ve tried to take advantage of as much as I can. Getting blown up with Captain Dynamite after a Hawks baseball game was a blast. Taking a listener out to lunch in a classic car used in the movie Dick Tracy. Flying in formation with the Red Barons. My favorite moment was pulling nearly 8 G’s TWICE with the Navy’s Blue Angels!
- Last Show I Binged: I like to find an OLD series to binge over the summers. This year it was the original Star Trek series!
I love love listening to KTSY! Last year one of you talked about a coffee cup that maintains the the same temperature of the liquid. What are the called please?
Last night I took my granddaughter to the Caldwell night light parade. I felt a sense of pride when I saw “Our” beautiful float rolling down the street! Passing along proclaiming God’s love through sending His Son for our salvation. Thank you everyone at KTSY! Tammie
