Since the winter of 1964, Idahoans have been driving up Hwy 55 in the snow to enjoy the McCall Winter Carnival. It’s an iconic event full of ice sculptures, a parade, creative competitions, children playing, warm drinks, & great food.
“McCall is my happy place” Dave says. “It doesn’t matter the season, I love spending time there!”
Tristi adds, “One of my favorite things is to take pictures of my kids in front of the sculptures and compare them year after year. Sometimes we go, just the 5 of us, and sometimes we have a whole crew of family & friends! Watching the kids grow up in pictures from the Winter Carnival is a sweet experience for me.”
The Carnival runs January 27-February 5. Dave says to make sure to get there on the front end of the Carnival if you want to see the sculptures before they have been played on and melted a bit! And, this may be the last year to enjoy this family-friendly tradition as we all know it. The McCall Chamber has announced significant changes coming to this annual event starting in 2024.
