Nighttime. You either love or loathe it. You might love it because that’s when the kids are finally asleep and you get some much needed time to yourself to catch up on reading, binging your favorite show, or getting cozy on the couch just you and your cup of hot tea. And if you’re a natural born “night-owl” like me, you LOVE it because you can have uninterrupted thoughts until dawn. For me, nighttime is when I can clean, organize, and create. Ideas just seem to flow more freely for me more during the nighttime/early morning hours.
But if you loathe it, it may be because you’re in a rocky season and the last thing you want is quiet. The last thing you want is to be alone with your anxious, worrisome, overwhelming thoughts. The last thing you want is solitude.
Lately, a couple of songs we play on KTSY have really been catching my attention. They have a similar theme. “I’ve Got Joy” by CeCe Winans and “Joy In The Morning” by Tauren Wells have been serving as a reminder that our loving Heavenly Father gives us HIS JOY. And HE gives it to us in abundance.
His joy can get us through the low valleys in life, the raging storms that shake our foundation; HIS joy is like an anchor keeping us from being swept away by our anxieties and fears. Having God’s joy doesn’t mean we won’t have troubles or that we should go around acting like everything is ok when it isn’t. But when you tap into the joy of the Lord that’s deep inside you, you can feel that everything is going to be ok, even though it’s not right now.
I love how Psalm 30:5 puts it, “weeping may endure for a night, but JOY comes in the morning.”
HIS joy comes when you trust HIM, no matter what.
