Abortion has been a procedure utilized in the United States for decades, even before it became legal to do so in 1973. Since legalization, over 62 million abortions have been performed.
In 1967, before abortion was legalized, Pro-Life advocates began to address the abortion issue by opening “Crisis Pregnancy Centers.” Today in the United States, pregnancy centers outnumber abortion clinics. It is currently estimated that there are about 3,000 pregnancy care centers and approximately 1,800 abortion clinics.
Pregnancy Centers offer a multitude of services, free of charge. They provide a safe and caring environment, godly counsel, pregnancy tests, limited obstetric ultrasounds, sexually transmitted illness testing, confidential peer counseling, educational information, abortion procedure and risk information, and family services.
In an effort to give a pregnant woman all the information about her unborn baby, ultrasounds were introduced to the line of services offered. Today 85-95% of women who have an ultrasound choose to carry the baby to term.
