Calling all control-freaks!
This message is for you.
We have been talking about the different gods that exist in our society today. These are the gods that are calling for our complete attention and devotion. They want your worship. That is modern idolatry.
You will face these gods at different times in your life, depending on your situation and circumstances.
But there is one god that is the most ruthless and relentless one out there:
It’s you.
You are the most powerful god in your life. It’s you at your worst, trying to take control of everything around you, even pushing God out of your life so that you can call all the shots.
Sounds scary, doesn’t it?
You might be thinking right now, “That’s not me. I’m not a control-freak. I can let go.”
So let’s do a spiritual diagnostic to see if we are struggling with the god of me.
Arrogance: Do you feel that you are better and smarter than most people? If you do you might have a god-of-me problem.
Insecurity: Do you feel that if you allow someone else to be in control things will fall apart? If you do you might have a god-of-me problem.
Defensiveness: Do you feel threatened by family, co-workers, or friends? If you do you might have a god-of-me problem.
So now you may have realized that you are worshipping at the altar of The God of Me. What do you do next?
It’s time to give your devotion to the only one that deserves it all. It’s time to give your attention to the one who has been trying to get it since you were born.
Put your life in the hands of Jesus. Give him the control you have been holding on to so tightly. Let him in and see what he will do for you today.
Stop worshipping yourself and worship Jesus.
