Sharing a cup of coffee with you is one of our favorite things about the Morning Show! Coffee in the morning or to get through that after-lunch slump is an important part of our day.
More than just a quick drive-thru to your local stand for your daily dose of caffeine and sugar, coffee shops can be an amazing place for healthy community. Human interaction. A place of belonging.
There is a little shop that I have been going to since I was a little girl–our neighborhood roaster, Treasure Valley Coffee.
I used to walk to school in the morning, right down the street, and if it was cold enough, I could smell the coffee roasting. Little did I know that that scrunched-up face and turned-up nose that would “never drink anything that smells like THAT!” would come to cherish this little spot when I grew up.
I moved back to the same neighborhood I grew up in 8 years ago and the Roastere has been my favorite place ever since. They have an espresso bar and serve the best-tasting espresso in the valley, IMO.
I love getting to know the people that work there. I just ask them about regular life stuff, how the trips to visit family went, how another employee is fairing in her fight with cancer, congratulating a barista that was once new, and is now the assistant manager, all while watching them pull the perfect shot of Cuban espresso for my Americano! Pair good questions with special moments and you are really on to something!
I take my girls there, just the two of us, on or around their birthday for a special treat and they always celebrate them with lots of whipped cream and sprinkles!
No matter where you get your favorite cup of joe, put yourself out there next time and ask a personal question. You never know where it might lead. Make the place you enjoy a place of community and belonging. It really does start with you!
